Cadbury making hazardous chocolates?

Is Cadbury India making hazardous chocolates? Sounds unbelievable. But the order of a consumer forum in the north eastern state of Tripura recently directed Cadbury India Limited to pay a compensation of Rs 30,000 to the complainant who found an iron pin inside a chocolate bar made by the company.

According to officials, a man purchased a Cadbury chocolate on Decemebr 16, 2011, for his daughter and found an iron pin inside th

bar when the girl tried to eat it. Subsequently, he filed a complaint before a consumer forum.  

The west Tripura district consumer disputes redressal forum in May ordered Cadbury India Limited to pay a compensation of Rs 30,000 to the complainant within a month. 

The forum said in its judgment that the chocolate was hazardous and also asked the company to pay Rs 1,000 to the complainant towards the cost of litigation.

But the company said it did not concur with the findings of the consumer court and would file an appeal against the order in the higher court.

Company official Siddharth Panicker said in a statement, “The quality and safety of our products is our highest priority. Cadbury India follows the internationally accepted Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) programme to ensure that our products and packaging are free from any extraneous physical, chemical or microbiological matter.”
